Will you perform outdoors? Is there an additional fee?
Yes, we perform outdoors quite a bit. There is not an additional fee. We do ask if the temperatures are very hot that the ensemble be provided cover from the direct sun. We will need protection from rain as our instruments will ruin if allowed to get wet.
What if the ceremony lasts longer than expected? Are there additional fees?
It’s not an issue if the ceremony goes over by only a few minutes. If the delay is more than ten minutes, there will be an overtime fee based on $100 per musician per hour. If you feel that your wedding might start late, it would be best to contract us accordingly.
What do you play for the ceremony?
Typically there are four or five pieces for the ceremony. 1) The Seating of the family – the grandmothers, mothers and any other special guests 2) The Bridal party processional 3) Bridal processional 4) Unity candle or sand ceremony 5) Recessional
What is prelude music?
This music is played while your guests arrive and are being seated. It can last anywhere from 10-30 minutes, depending on how long your ceremony lasts. If you’ve determined that your ceremony will only last fifteen minutes, beginning at 6pm, you might want to contract us to play from 5:30 to 6:30pm.
Will you attend our wedding rehearsal?
It is not necessary for us to attend. We have played in so many weddings that we will be able to time the processional music according to the number of people involved. The details we need to know are the number of family seatings, the number of bridesmaids/flower girls/ring bearers. We will arrive early enough before the prelude to meet and talk to the coordinator. We can make arrangements to have a representative attend for a fee of $100.
How can I see your repertoire?
Our repertoire differs based upon the size of the ensemble, but most traditional pieces are available with any ensemble. Hear us play and see our list of music selections.
Do you have suggestions for the wedding ceremony?
Absolutely, we would talk to you about what you would like and make suggestions based upon your desires. See our Repertoire page for some examples.
Do the strings need amplification?
No, even with outdoor weddings, the string sound will carry well. But we do have an amplifier and two microphones that we rent. Often a minister cannot be heard by the guests. The special vows that you have written need to be heard by the family and guests. Our professional system includes a large tripod to hold the amplifier off the ground, two microphones – one that clips on the minister’s lapel and the other is a hand held for you to use for the exchange of vows.
Can you accompany a vocalist of our choosing?
Yes, we will need to communicate with your vocalist beforehand about the music. On the day of the wedding, we will need to rehearse our music together before the prelude. There will be a fee of $25 per musician for the preparation of the music and the rehearsal time.
Can you play specially requested music?
Definitely, if the music you want is not available for your requested ensemble (quartet or trio or duet), we will need to have it professionally arranged. The fee for this is reasonable and depends on the complexity of the music.
What payment options do you offer?
Cash, check or PayPal. There is a 3% discount for cash and check.
How do you handle an unexpected illness or emergency of one of your musicians?
We have a pre-selected group of reserve musicians who have experience performing with us and have been contracted to substitute in the event of an emergency.
How do the musicians dress?
We wear all black, tuxes upon request.
Do we need to meet in person?
It isn’t necessary. We can discuss the music details thru emails and the phone. If you would like to meet, we can schedule an appointment.
We are interested in having a quartet for my office’s annual dinner party. Is this a service you could provide?
Yes, we would love to have our quartet play for your company’s dinner meeting. String music is relaxing, entertaining and easy to talk over. Other events we have played for include corporate holiday parties, annual board meetings, fund raisers, birthday parties, and anniversary celebrations. For these different occasions, different ensemble sizes may work best. Depending on the size of the gathering a quartet is best for the most sound. A smaller party may only need a trio, duet or solo instrument.
How do I decide how many players I need?
Budget always is a factor. But the sound each ensemble produces varies. As simple as this appears, the full quartet has the fullest sound and offers the most complete musical arrangements. Most music is written in four parts or more. The size of the guest list and wedding party will suggest how many musicians are needed.
For the reception, should we have strings or a DJ or a live band?
Live musicians create a completely different atmosphere than a DJ. The music provided by each is quite different too. String music is easier to talk over than electronic music. Consider the music selections from the quartet. The style of music may be more preferable for the romantic ambiance you want to create. We also have connections with some excellent dance bands if you want the reception to turn into a more energetic dance party.
How are will the musicians travel?
We have musicians perform all around the Austin area, from Buda to Jonestown to Fredericksburg. Let us know where your wedding is to be held and our fees will include the travel expense.
Do you play receptions and dinner hours as well?
Yes, we play cocktail and dinner music. The diversity of our repertoire allows for entertaining, romantic music. That is one of the beauties of string ensembles, the music can be heard yet the guests can converse easily
